After the tragic death of
Officer Dwayne Freeto last December, a second grade class at
Ridglea Hills Elementary School learned of the tragedy. After
learning that Officer Freeto had two young daughters himself, the
second grade students decided to raise money for the Freeto Family
as their class project. The kids sold wristbands, accepted
donations and worked very hard to make their project a success.
After the students finished
their project, they invited Karen Freeto, as well as some officers
from Dwayne Freeto’s academy class and the officers Dwayne worked
with to come to the school to accept the money as a gift.
On Wednesday, March 28, a
number of officers went to the school with Karen. The officers and
Karen were escorted inside by “Brownies” and treated to coffee,
juice, and sweet rolls. Everyone was then escorted to the
auditorium where the children made their presentation. All along
the hallways, the children hanged pictures that they created,
thanking Police Officers for their service to the community and
giving them thanks.
To say the least, this was a
very moving ceremony. The children worked very hard and
accomplished a great deal. This is a great group of kids and we
should all be very proud of them.
A special THANK YOU to
all the teachers, administrators, and staff at Ridglea Elementary.
You are all obviously having a great and positive impact on the
children in your care! And thanks to Debra Papenfuss for helping
to organize and coordinate this event! |
