November 2005 - Cops for Kids Fund Benefit

On November 21, 2005, Members of the Fort Worth Police Officers Association gathered at the Wal-Mart store at McCart and Sycamore School Road and participated in the third annual "Cops for Kids" Thanksgiving event. Our officers assisted over thirty families in need from Councilman Jungus Jordan’s district, by shopping with them and buying them food for the upcoming holidays. A special thanks goes out to Billy Gray, event organizer, City Councilman Jungus Jordan, as well as to every officer who went the extra mile in helping make this event a success. Also, a special thanks to Wal-Mart for participating in this project.

August 2005 - Memorial Fund Raiser

On August 4, the Fort Worth Flyers, Fort Worth’s new basketball team, hosted a fund raiser for the Fort Worth Police and Fire Memorial ath "8.0" downtown. A number of citizens lines up to pay $1.00 for three chances at throwing a basketball through the hoop. Winners were all given a t-shirt. We were happy to see Tom and Gwen Wiederhold, Brenda Silcox, Clara Vallejo, Billy Samuel, and other Officers who came by to help out or just say hello. The fund raising is still going on. We hope to have more to report soon!

In 1969, before astronaut Alan Bean (left) traveled to the moon, he was issued a Fort Worth police ID and badge. These items traveled with Bean to the moon and back. In a ceremony at Noble Planetarium, Bean gave these cherished items back to the man who had given them to him, retired sergeant Jim Stout (center left).  Sgt. Stout then presented these items to Mayor Moncrief (center right) and Chief Mendoza (right). The items will be on display at the  Museum of Science and History until September when they will be moved to the Police Academy where they will remain on public display.
